Authenticity Pays

Updated: Dec 13, 2019

We have become a generation of consumers. Virtually from the time we open our eyes in the morning until the time we shut our eyes at night, we are consuming information put out into the world by others. We are bombarded with images, videos, music, memes, advertisements and social media feeds all directing our attention to someone else’s agenda. All wanting us to buy what is being sold. All suggesting to us how we should think, feel, act & be in order to count. We live in a society where it literally pays to have a herd of followers. Where “influencers” are rewarded for the power their message has over others and those that follow the messages are viewed as a commodity. In essence, we are being programmed away from our own hearts, our true selves, and our true feelings to follow where others direct us.

Be Unafraid to Stand Out...For the Right Reasons

Not only are we being led away from our true selves, we have no idea whether those influencers we follow are presenting their true selves to the world either. There are so many platforms for people to present to the world whatever image they would like, without regard to whether the presentation is truthful or not. Instead of truly living our best lives, with the advent of Social Media, many of us are out here living our best lie. Flossing, fronting, faking it ‘till we make it, doing it for the ‘Gram and showcasing a life that we have conjured up in our heads rather than having to deal with and reveal what we truly hold in our hearts.

In a world where everyone wants to be famous and will do just about anything for the ‘Gram, it is refreshing to encounter people who are real. Genuineness and authenticity are rare commodities these days. In a world where a person’s popularity is of paramount importance to them, and is determined by the number of likes their videos get or the throng of followers they’ve collected, it’s like a breath of fresh air to meet someone who genuinely knows and likes themselves; someone who is not afraid to connect to and reveal their depths, their highs and their lows, their light and their dark. When you meet someone who shines from the inside out with integrity, warmth, compassion, intelligence and high vibrations, there’s no mistaking their light. You immediately feel at ease around this type of person because they’re at ease with themselves, which subconsciously gives you permission to ease into the truth of your being as well.

These types of rare genuine people give us hope that though the distractions and superficiality of this day and age may be great, there are still those who connect to their higher selves before connecting to Social Media. These authentic, bold, courageous individuals know who they are and aren’t afraid to stand out. They have nothing to prove and nothing to defend as they are not threatened by any outside influence. They are clear on exactly who they are and accept themselves just as they are, flaws and all. That self-acceptance, self-awareness, self-actualization makes all the difference between a follower and a leader. It’s the difference between being one out of a million or one in a million; between fading into the background or being the star of the show. Bottom line: it pays to be genuinely, authentically, unabashedly you. Try it. You’ll see.
